Scott Buchanan

Flat out. That’s how best to sum up Scott’s riding. He’s always on the throttle, pedalling hard, not because he can’t pump, but cause he likes to go as fast and as high as possible. Boosting shit, 360s, backflips and combination tricks are what floats his boat and he certainly knows how to put on a jam. Scott the Punk is the dude behind Stronghold BMX and Joe Symonds wing man at Grandmas trails. Scott is a real underground hero. If you haven’t heard of Scott Buchanan you aren’t BMX.

Indoor = getabmx

Outdoor = Joe Bailey

Who is Scott Buchanan?

Angry and happy all at the same time.

How did you get into riding?

I always wanted to ride BMX, when I was about 9 or 10 I had a mate that rode and rode Moto X too. So in the week I would ride dirt fly outs and at the weekend there would always be stuff to ride next to or on the MX track.

Best thing about BMX?

Physical creativity, the feeling it gives you, having fun with your mates and of course traveling. Thats four sorry.

Worst thing about BMX?

Injuries = not being able to ride BMX

Favourite quote/advice/motto:

Don’t waste your life working a job you hate.

Interesting fact about yourself/the world:

About me? I'm really dyslexic and dis calculate to the point where if you ask me my times tables I'd probably end up curled into a ball crying.

2012 highlight(s):

Probably when the Scottish lads (Kriss Kyle, Jason Phelan etc) came down to ride Grandmas trails for four days in summer, despite all the rain! (vimeo link)

Firsts of 2013

Ride (date) 3rd of Jan

Ride (spot) Flo skate park

People you rode with: Fuck knows

Overshoot/flat-landing: Every time I ride

Doing a Downside Footplant when my mate Jamie Slack was taking a picture of it and I carved too much. By the time I looked down he was underneath me and I had to eject.

Tweaked ankle thinking I was a funny bastard on a scooter.

Bike fail/break:

Obliterated back wheel

New trick/line: 1ft X-up to Turndown.

Thing that scared you:

Hitting my front wheel on the ceiling above the vert wall at Flo skatepark.

Funny moment:

Well this isn’t anything recent but my mate Mark made a fake profile on of our friend Jordan called jordancuteteen. He set the profile to gay and over night Jordan was a gay internet sensation. I'm not even joking, there was a bloke in Finland that printed out a picture of Jordan, jizzed all over his face and sent us a picture of it. We even had guys taking pictures from Jordan’s profile and using them as their own.

Best edit you've seen this year (see left)

Demolition east coast trails trip. Big style, good tricks, good song.

Plans/goals for 2013:

Stay healthy, ride loads, have fun, travel more.

Any wild trips planned?

I want to go back to Austin TX again this year if I can. Maybe Australia in winter? It’s a matter of money and time to go.

Shout outs:

Shout out to all the Grandmas lads, anyone repping Stronghold and my girl friend Sarah. Oh yeah and check out
