To celebrate the start of the 2012 trails season at Monkey Bumps trails in Sheffield a low key weekend jam was held over the 31 March/ 01 April weekend.

The weekend was full of cases, crashes, guinea pigging new jumps, trains and boosting. Oh and stunts...

01 April

By Sunday two locals were down and out: Bob from a stack at the trails on Saturday and Dean from a DH crash. There was a lower turnout on the Sunday, but the sun was out and the trails were running better than ever. Everyone was warmed up from Saturday and getting lose on the super pumpy trails.

After a pit stop the session was in full flow. Tom was riding to his usual high standard boosting high and sending smooth twists over the last. We did some helmet cam trains and after some mishaps I got the 360 Gopro clip.

Best trick comp

After a couple of days thinking about what to set as the challenge for the getabmx t.shirt comp I decided on best trick on the first jump, a jump least suited to tricking. In addition, the trick only counted if the rider rode through the rest of the line. I was excited to watch the comp and expected only small tricks to be pulled on this jump, but I was wrong.

Steve Artus, Tom Blackham and Richard Hemingray had five runs to showcase their skills. On his first run, Tom twisted the first and even threw in a table later in his run. The bar was set and it looked unbeatable. Steve tried to keep up throwing 3s on the first, but he failed to land smooth enough to carry on through the set so didn’t place. Rich put in a solid challenge putting in some high scores with a clicked table and a tuck no hander. Having scored so highly in his first run Tom knew he had it in the bag, and varied his following runs with huge turndowns and ET’s through the whole line.

Despite a four man judging panel and a scoring card (back of a sticker), no adding up was required as Tom Blackham was the undisputed winner, bagging the getabmx t.shirt and stickers.
