Flapjack in

Thirty Minutes

I should start by saying that I am far from a keen cook/baker. If I have the motivation and skills to bake something then anyone can. Flapjack has got to be the easiest treat to make. You only need a few ingredients and there is no need for scales or precise measurements. You just chuck everything into a pan and then in an oven. It’s that simple, and it tastes good, and it lasts forever, and it’s good riding food, kind of like an energy bar but cheaper. Here’s how to impress the ladies/ your riding buddies:


- 500 - 700 grams of porridge oats

- Half a standard pack (around 250grams) of posh brown sugar (Demerara is best)

- Half a pack of unsalted butter (125grams)

- 3/4 tablespoons of syrup

Anything else you fancy (sesame seeds/ chocolate/ honey etc)


  1. 1.Find your largest pan

  2. 2.Melt the butter on a low heat

  3. 3.Stir in the sugar and syrup

  4. 4.Turn the oven on to around 180 degrees/ gas mark 6

  5. 5.Slowly mix in the porridge oats and other ingredients

  6. 6.Once everything is mixed together, add to a large pre greased tray (use some butter/ margarine/ grease proof paper)

  7. 7.Place in the hot oven for around 25 minutes

  8. 8.Take out, let the flapjack cool for about 5 -10 minutes, then cut into slices
